LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear is being recognized by Time Magazine.

Beshear was included in the magazine's Time100 Next list for 2024.

This year marks the fifth year for the list, which was created to recognize many of today's most influential leaders of all ages.

According to the article, Beshear is being recognized for his work in the state, including the legalization of medical marijuana and expanding Medicaid to cover vision and dental care.

It also cited his "commitment to reproductive rights" and his steady presence in his response to flooding in eastern Kentucky and tornados in western Kentucky.

Beshear was in the national spotlight this summer when he made the short list as a potential running mate for Vice President Kamala Harris' presidential campaign.

In a post on social media Wednesday, Beshear said he was honored to be included with "such phenomenal people."

"This honor is a testament to the great work we're doing in Kentucky and the rest of the world is noticing. Thank you," the governor wrote.

Other names on this year's list include NBA star Jaylen Brown, singer Sabrina Carpenter, actors Nicola Coughlan and Kaia Gerber, and more.
