LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A Kentucky lawmaker filed a bill aimed at increasing transparency in the state's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
State Representative T.J. Roberts filed House Joint Resolution 68, which would direct the Cabinet for Health and Family Services to allow third-party SNAP processors to share data with the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Roberts said the move is about accountability, noting that one in eight Kentuckians relies on food assistance.
He argues improved data-sharing will strengthen oversight, prevent fraud and protect benefits for low-income families, seniors and children.
SNAP is federally-funded, but administered by the states.
The bill is now before the General Assembly.
