LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentucky Sen. David Yates, D-Louisville, was sworn in Wednesday as the Jefferson County clerk.

Yates was appointed by Mayor Craig Greenberg to fill the role following longtime clerk Bobbie Holsclaw's death in September.

The senator announced his candidacy for the role back in June. He joined the Kentucky Senate in 2021 after serving on Metro Council for a decade, including two terms as president.

Yates said his first task will be meeting with everyone in the clerk's office. He will face Roz Welch in the Democratic primary for the clerk position in May.
