LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- We are still about a year away from the primary but we already know who will be on the ballot for Jefferson County's next clerk.
David Yates — who is currently a Kentucky state senator — announced his candidacy for the seat on June 9.
The Democrat joined the state Senate in 2021 after serving as a Metro Council member. He will campaign against Democrat Rosalind "Roz" Welch for the county clerk position.
Welch is a Louisville native who has served as an election officer for more than 10 years.
Republican Bobbi Holsclaw has served as Jefferson County Clerk for 27 years.
If elected, Yates would vacate his Senate seat for the remainder of his term.
The Kentucky primary is next May.
