LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Updates are coming to the slow-moving Highway 44 in Mt. Washington.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to widen a section of Highway 44 that a recent study identified as a top priority for upgrades. The state has presented a few different options: widening a stretch of the road to four or five lanes, or adding a median U-turn at the intersection.Â
Officials heard from residents during a public meeting Tuesday that the road is subject to constant congestion and backups because it's not wide enough in many areas. However, right now, the state is focusing its efforts on a 1.5-mile stretch in Mt. Washington from Water Street to the U.S. 31 West intersection.Â
"We heard a lot from people that live in the area that they were concerned about the entire corridor as a while," KYTC spokesperson Morgan Woodrum said. "Currently, the only section that is funded is the section we're currently examining."
The state is still looking for feedback on the project, and residents can take a survey. To provide public comment online, click here.
