LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- It was a celebration Saturday for a man who lead the way for so many in the Louisville community.

Churches, businesses and community organizations gathered at King Solomon Baptist Church for Rev. Charles Elliott Jr.'s 90th birthday.

Everyone celebrated with a prayer breakfast. Elliott walked and worked with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and has been a civil rights pioneer in Kentucky for more than 50 years.

"This is a great opportunity for us to tell Pastor Elliott that we love him, we appreciate him, being a civil rights leader, being a teacher, being a father figure, being one of the men you can always depend on to be here," Director of Jesus Movement Wanda McIntyre said.

Rev. Elliott is still very active and leads Father's Day Peace Walks as well as other efforts for social justice and non-violence.
