LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Legendary Bellarmine basketball coach Scott Davenport was just given the highest honor the university can grant.

During Thursday's Knight of Excellence event at the university, Davenport was given the Knight of Knights Award.

Davenport led Bellarmine men's basketball to a Division II National Title,  guided the program through its transition to Division I and won the ASUN Conference Tournament in 2022.

During his speech Thursday, Davenport recalled a time after a big win when a former player was so emotional afterwards, he couldn't take his jersey off.

"We lived with one premise — you should play every day like you never want to take your jersey off for the last time. This is Bellarmine," Davenport said.

Davenport retired earlier this year.
