LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The Simpsonville Police Department will swear in a new chief nearly a month after the city's police chief was suspended over allegations of harassment and misconduct.

David Alkins, who has been serving as acting chief, will be sworn in as the new chief Tuesday evening at City Hall, according to the police department.

The change comes nearly a month after Chief Thomas Brummer was suspended with pay following a July 21 city meeting.

According to Brummer's notice of suspension, the city received a "credible allegation" of harassment and violations of performance and conduct. He was ordered to surrender his badge and other department-issued equipment.

The city hired Advanced Investigative Solutions to investigate the allegations. Details about the allegations have not been released.

Brummer's suspension was initially set for up to 30 days or longer if needed. His notice said he could return to work Aug. 20 unless notified sooner.

Alkins, then a sergeant, was named acting chief after Brummer's suspension.

The city has not said whether the investigation into Brummer has been completed or what his employment status will be following Alkins' appointment.
