LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Skeleton remains found in Carroll County more than 40 years ago have been identified as a Louisville man.
In a news release, Kentucky State Police said the remains recovered in Nov. 1980 matched the DNA from another set of skeletal remains found around the same time in Switzerland County in Indiana. DNA testing was not able to identify the person at that time.
In 2005, genetic testing linked the two sets of remains as the same person.
In 2023, KSP submitted the remains to Othram, an identification lab in Texas. Othram used a technique called Forensic-Grade Genome Sequencing to build a profile using DNA from the remains.
The information was then given to KSP Detective Endre Samu, who was able to meet with a potential family member of the unknown person and obtained a confirmative DNA test.
The person was identified as Kenneth Linville of Louisville. He was born in 1939.
Officials do not know the cause of death, and are investigating.
