LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – Daily road closures are planned for the streets under the Clark Memorial Bridge in downtown Louisville and Jeffersonville next week while crews conduct routine inspections.
That's according to a news release from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
The inspections are scheduled to begin on June 9 and are not expected to impact traffic on the bridge.
It's necessary to close the roads under the bridge on both sides of the river to accommodate snooper trucks and other inspection equipment.
The roads that will be affected are: North Second Street near the KFC Yum! Center in downtown Louisville, and West Market Street/West Riverside Drive in Jeffersonville.
The lane closures will happen from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Friday, June 13, to avoid disrupting rush hour traffic.
Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zones.
The second inspection phase is scheduled to start Monday, June 16, through Friday, June 20. That's when inspectors will climb the bridge’s steel truss to inspect the upper steel beams.
That work is scheduled during daytime hours and does not require lane closures on the bridge; however, crews will stage equipment on the southbound sidewalk, which may temporarily restrict pedestrian access. The northbound sidewalk will remain closed to pedestrians.
Drivers should obey detour signs and use caution when traveling through the work zones.
