More than 1 million Hoosiers have a suspended driver's license. And about 80% of those cases are tied-up in fees that people can't afford to pay.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A name change is coming to a southern Indiana interstate, but locals may have already been calling it by its new name.

Wednesday, the Indiana Department of Transportation said Indiana 265 will soon be known as Interstate 265, from the Interstate 65 interchange to the Lewis and Clark Bridge, connecting Clark County with eastern Jefferson County, Kentucky.

INDOT said in a news release the new name change will "create a more functional and integrated roadway system."

The road was extended by four miles before the bridge opened in December 2016.

New signage, including exit renumbering, and guardrails will be added along the entire I-265 stretch in Clark and Floyd counties. That work is expected to start Oct. 28. INDOT estimates work to reinstall guardrails will take up to three months, weather permitting.

All work along I-265 is expected to be completed by fall 2026.
