LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Thousands of people lined streets in the Highlands to celebrate St. Patrick's Day a little early this year.

The 50th Ancient Order of Hibernians' St. Patrick's Parade was held in Louisville on Saturday. The annual parade started at the intersection of Broadway and Baxter Avenue, and traveled down Bardstown Road to Windor Place.

"Everybody from the community to anybody trying to just have a good time with their family, have a couple beers with their friends," said Ross Kennedy, an attendee. "All the local businesses up and down the street, it's a really good supportive community and a great time."

Attendees were treated to hands outs like candy, green beads, coins and more from people in the parade.

"The weather couldn't be better, it's been a real good time," Kennedy said.

Former Louisville Mayor Harvey Sloane was honored at the event.

While the parade and a series of events leading up to Saturday are now complete, the Irish Meal at Franciscan Kitchen is planned for March 17, on St. Patrick's Day.
