BARDSTOWN, Ky. (WDRB) - Two years after a Bardstown Police officer was gunned down -- investigators still don't know who pulled the trigger. But his memory lives on.
"We are putting out the blue glow lights in honor of Jason Ellis. We are still awaiting justice," said his mother-in-law Kris Phillips.
The path began where Ellis was killed and ended at his final resting place.
"Leading him home basically," said his brother-in-law Nathan Phillips. "Because he didn't make it home that night.That's what it means to me anyways."
Ellis was gunned down while removing debris from a Bluegrass Parkway exit ramp on May 25, 2013. Nathan Phillips is also a Bardstown Police officer.
"It took me a year and a half to finally come through here," he said about the location of the murder. "Because it was ya know, just too emotional, too eerie, I guess."
There haven't been any arrests in the case. Though the reward for information is up to $185,000 dollars.
Ellis' widow Amy made a plea for answers in a recently released video.
"I thought it would be solved within a few months," her mother said. "Never believed it would be this long."
Kris Phillips says it's hard for the family to move forward and heal without know who was involved and why.
"We need closure for everyone, but especially Jason's children," she said. "They need closure."
Phillips says she hopes someone who sees the blue lights will decide to come forward. She also says she will continue to organize events in his memory until an arrest is made.
The reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction is $185,000.
