LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Tears of relief flowed at a Louisville church Friday as hundreds of west Louisville residents were able to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
UofL Health hosted a pop-up vaccination site at Kingdom Fellowship Christian Life Center on East Broadway in an effort to change the lower percentage of people in the area getting vaccinated.
"We are seeing many seniors and many of those seniors, I think, at one time may have been apprehensive and have access issues, but very apprehensive about the vaccine, so having the vaccine event here in the church, and even in the sanctuary, I think has helped with easing some of those fears," Senior Pastor Tim Findley said.
Findley and members of his congregation were there to greet everyone at the door and put them at ease. Some of those getting shots have had issues either signing up or getting to a vaccination site.
"We've had people cry, we've had people, even today, who have just been overjoyed just being able to get in to a vaccination event where they are comfortable and actually get the shot," Findley said. "We've heard nothing but positive and wonderful things."
After more than 100 people were vaccinated last week, more than 400 people received shots Friday.
Due to a large amount of signups at the pop-up site, another 400 people will be vaccinated at the location Tuesday.
