LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The University of Louisville received more than $11.6 million in federal funding to expand research into nutrition and metabolic health.
The funding from the National Institutes of Health will help launch UofL's Nutrition and Metabolic Health Center, bringing researchers together to study the connections between food, metabolism and overall health.
Once complete, the center will allow researchers to examine how the body processes food, how nutrition affects health and how environmental factors can influence metabolism.
"We're going to be able to integrate everyone under a unified cause, to work together for a common goal to train this next generation to perform research that will lead to the development of new therapies that will benefit people in Kentucky and beyond," UofL Professor of Medicine Matt Cave said.
UofL said the center will also focus on finding new ways to prevent and treat chronic diseases linked to metabolic health, including diabetes, heart disease and liver dysfunction.
The university said the investment will also help train the next generation of researchers working in nutrition and metabolic health.
