UPDATE: SWAT situation in Audubon Park resolved

AUDUBON PARK, Ky. (WDRB) -- SWAT officers have been called to an Audubon Park residence to help police make contact with a man inside his home.

Audubon Park Police say at 2:42 p.m. Saturday, the man left the house peacefully and surrendered to officers. Audubon Park Police Chief Doug Sweeney says the man threw his gun and bullets outside before walking out of the house. He says the man was taken to the hospital and will undergo mental evaluation.

According to Chief Sweeney, a mental inquest warrant was recently issued for the 28-year-old man by a family member. Sweeney says relatives thought he could be a danger to himself or others.

"At some point we received a 911 hang up phone call from the house," Sweeney said. That brought a police presence to the home on the 3300 block of Chickadee Rd. Saturday morning, Sweeney said.

Police say all family members are now out of the house. Sweeney says LMPD SWAT and hostage negotiators were called to the scene because authorities believe the man has access to weapons.

Sweeney says officers have made on and off contact with the man.

"We don't want him getting hurt, we don't want any of us getting hurt, we don't want any neighbors getting hurt, so I'd rather always over prepare than under prepare," Sweeney said.
