LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The American Heart Association said more than 70% of cardiac arrests happen inside the home, and local health leaders are making sure you are prepared.
Volunteers from UofL Health and Louisville Fire offered hands-only CPR training during opening day at the Kentucky State Fair.
Experts said performing hands-only CPR until EMS arrives can double, even triple, the chance of survival.
"Hands-only CPR training is really important for everyone to learn," Mandi Pyles, UofL Health Resuscitation Institute Manager, said. "We never know when we may need it. We may be in the public. It may be in a private setting when you're at home. A lot of people actually can go into cardiac arrest more so at home than in a hospital setting or in public."
UofL Health is set to offer CPR training at its booth every day at the State Fair, which runs from Aug. 15-25.Â
But you can also go to any Louisville fire station to get training.
