LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- People had the chance to register to vote thanks to a "votercade" on Saturday in Louisville's west end.

Volunteers first canvased at Lyle's Mall and the Kroger parking lot on West Broadway. The votercade then held a rally at St. Stephen Life Center. The event aimed to boost voter registration and participation in neighborhoods with historically low voter turnout.

"Because we know this is a low turnout area, we wanted to energize everyone who is out here to make sure they make it to the polls," said Latisha Cahoon, president of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. "We want to make sure their voices count. A lot of times they are impacted by others who are making decisions for them, so be a part of the solution. Help to make those decisions for yourself."

The 2024 General Election is Nov. 5. The registration deadline for the election is Oct. 7 at 4 p.m. If someone is not registered on or before Oct. 7, they are not eligible to request an absentee ballot or vote in person during the election.

"There are so many big issues at stake this November, and it's important that everyone's voices are heard," Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg said. "We want everyone's voices to be heard."
