LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Big changes are underway at Waterfront Park in downtown Louisville.
Trees are gone, and construction equipment is in place on the 1-acre plot. It's all for the Overlook at Waterfront Park.
The Overlook is being build as part of a $600,000 revitalization project, thanks to a Humana Foundation Grant. All that remains of the plot now is the crushed granite surface that will be eventually be replaced with grass.
The trees that were there were either sick, dead or dying, so new, better adapted ones will be put in their place.
"It will a beautiful improvement," said Deborah Bilitski, executive director of Waterfront Park. "Of course, we've got the amazing Gracehoper sculpture there now, and so it will provide just a beautiful home for the Gracehoper and it will become much more ascetically pleasing focal point of this area of the park."
Other changes include new paint on benches, light poles and trash cans as well as an irrigation system for the new grass, something it doesn't have now.
The project is expected to be completed sometime this winter with a grand opening in spring 2025.Â
