LOUISVILLE, Ky (WDRB) — Trinity High School students from Whitesville, in western Kentucky, studying abroad in Paris were inside the Louvre Museum when it was robbed Sunday.
Investigators said four thieves stole an estimated $100 million worth of Napoleonic-era crown jewels in a four-minute heist.
The students were preparing to enter the Apollo Gallery when the museum went into lockdown.
"All of a sudden, I just see people flooding out of the room, like pure fear on their faces," a witness said.
Museum staff locked down parts of the building as police moved in. The students and chaperones were kept inside for a little more than an hour before being allowed to leave.
No one in the group was hurt, and they were able to continue their trip.
The Louvre reopened the next day, and investigators are still searching for the thieves.
