LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man was arrested for allegedly swinging a dog by its leash and throwing it against a dumpster in Shepherdsville last week.
According to an arrest warrant, a man was walking his dog in the parking lot of a Shepherdsville business when he was approached by 39-year-old David Craig.
Craig allegedly "approached and challenged" the man and grabbed the dog's leash after the man fell to the ground. Court documents say Craig then swung the dog by its leash "around like a propeller" and eventually let go, which caused the dog to fly into the side of a dumpster.
Craig then fled the scene, police said, and officers found him sitting on a patio at an apartment where his relatives lived.
He told police they were actually looking for "a homeless man named Tom that lives in the woods," court documents claim. But video of the incident was posted on social media, and police matched Craig's description with photos and the footage.
The dog was taken to an animal hospital and had no broken bones.
Craig was charged with torture of a dog or cat, cruelty to animals, menacing and assault with no visible injury.
His bond was set at $15,000 and has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Oct. 30.
