A former Indiana state senator pleaded guilty Monday to receiving about $40,000 in illegal contributions from a casino company for his unsuccessful 2016 congressional campaign.

County zoning officials are scheduled to consider the new site during March 2 meetings.

The commission preliminarily picked Churchill Downs in November over three other companies for the Terre Haute license.

Churchill Downs was one of four gaming companies jockeying over the opportunity to expand their brand and develop the Queen of Terre Haute Casino Resort.

The new general manager says they are considering making some improvements to the property.

The name, branding and appearance will all stay the same, along with the player loyalty program.

The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians — EBCI —wants to buy the casino for $250 million. 

If all goes according to Gov. Eric Holcomb's plan, the final phase would start July 4.

Casinos say that when they restart, guests will see new protocols for sanitation and safety.
