The district resumed the masking requirement for students and staff for the beginning of the 2022-23 school year because of Jefferson County's "red" designation on the state COVID map.
An announcement on the mask requirement was sent out late Tuesday night.
Board members James Craig, who represents District 3, and Sarah Cole McIntosh, who represents District 7, also cited the drop in local COVID-19 caseloads as part of their support to revisit district policies regarding indoor masking, quarantining, isolations and contact tracing.
Pollio said he would base recommendations regarding indoor masking at JCPS on federal and state guidance.
The emergency regulation will be in effect 270 days, and the board will consider rescinding it 24 hours after changes in recommendations from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention or the Kentucky Department for Public Health on universal masking.
Many parents said they wanted a choice on whether or not their kid has to mask up, which caused some emotions to boil over.
