A former Kentucky sheriff who was involved in criminal cases in 2020 is running for sheriff again.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The assistant chief of the Hardinsburg Police Department has been charged with driving under the influence. 

He was sentenced on Thursday for a DUI charge.

The Kentucky sheriff who retired amid a DUI scandal has been replaced by a political rival.

Pate is currently barred from both driving and carrying a gun.

He's been arrested twice -- and he can't carry a gun or drive a car -- but Breckinridge County Sheriff Todd Pate is still on the job.

The charges stem from a March 8 incident in which police say Pate was driving a vehicle while intoxicated, at nearly twice the legal limit.
