It's not the first time Kentucky's largest school district has recruited from the island territory. 

The state's largest school district recruited 20 teachers from the Caribbean island and unincorporated U.S. territory seven years ago.

This is the first time the competition has been hosted in the state of Kentucky.

Jefferson Community and Technical College held a "career connector" Saturday. More than 70 students had the chance to engage with Louisville's top employers like U of L Health.

JCPS spokesman Mark Hebert confirmed Wednesday the school district is considering eliminating one- or two-hour delays in response to winter weather.

The event takes place Oct. 14, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center at 3029 W. Muhammad Ali Blvd. 

The state's largest school district utilizes a handbook to outline discipline and expectations for nearly 100,000 students.

JCPS superintendent Dr. Marty Pollio said the school district plans to roll out proposals over the next few weeks to change school start times.

The scholarship fund comes from money donated by district employees.
