LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- DeSales High School celebrated a state championship on Monday.
The boys soccer team won the 2A state title by defeating Murray 3-0 on Sunday. Broden Boone scored two goals while Grant Stephens added a goal for DeSales. Parker Collins recorded five saves for a clean sheet.
The ride back home was full of excitement according to the student athletes.
"It was a party," said midfielder Tyler Droege. "We were listening to music the whole two hour bus ride back. Everyone dancing and everything. It was just super fun and I'm proud of all these boys."
After losing in the 2A championship to Warren Central last year, DeSales won its first 2A soccer state title in school history.
"These boys, they've dealt with a lot," said coach Ryan Glynn. "So they deserve that moment. They deserve to be there. They worked to be there. And I was just thankful they got that moment."
DeSales defeated Glasgow 5-0 in the 2A semi-state round on Sept. 14. The Colts then defeated Rowan County 3-0 on Saturday.
DeSales (13-4) continues its regular season against Butler on Tuesday.
