LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Elizabethtown native Jansen Wilson said he always had a goal to play professional soccer. To be able to do it for the hometown team he grew up watching has been, in his word, "incredible." The club is very happy to have the dynamic, versatile scorer in its lineup.

He was a 14-year-old soccer-loving kid when Louisville City FC began playing in 2015.

"Oh it was amazing," Wilson said. "To be able to bring a professional team to this area, I think it helped grow the game for everyone around Kentucky. It was great for me, for my family (and) for soccer. It was just a really cool time. We would sit in the supporter section many, many games."

Wilson become a standout at Elizabethtown High School and then played collegiately at both the University of Kentucky and Belmont Universtiy. Some summer training with Louisville City during that time led to a tryout after college and a contract with the club before last season.

"He's a kid who puts in the work every single day," Louisville City head coach Danny Cruz said. "He's a kid who has an honest mentality who leaves everything on the field. And then you look at the quality that he has in front of goal, he's really had that since we first saw him. We looked at him. We thought he could play multiple positions for us, which he ha. And then, again, he's a great human being who fits our culture to a tee."

Wilson scored nine times in his rookie campaign and he has been heating up in year two with four goals over the last month plus. It's a tear that coincides with the return of his mustache.

"I had it for a little bit in college and it was actually my wife Logan's idea to bring it back," said Wilson. "I kind of went along with it and it's working so far. As long as the goals keep coming it will stay."

And as long as Logan likes it as well. Wilson is hoping to add another goal or two this Saturday when Louisville City plays host to Charleston in a battle for the top of the USL Championship table. That's a 8 p.m. start at Lynn Family Stadium. You can watch the game on WBKI.
