LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Behind a 32-point performance from Hanover commit Jack Miller, Scottsburg boys basketball won its first state championship Saturday evening.
The Warriors (25-5) used a 9-0 fourth quarter run to pull away from South Bend St. Joseph, 67-57, in the Indiana High School Athletic Association Class 3A State Championship in Indianapolis.
Miller did most of his scoring in the first half as Scottsburg and South Bend St. Joseph (20-10) remained close. He had 19 points and shot 3-4 from beyond the arc while Kody Clancy had 12 points.
At halftime, Scottsburg held a slim 35-34 lead as both teams shot 52%. South Bend St. Joseph had the 16-8 rebound advantage despite committing seven turnovers.
The Huskies at half had five players with at least five points. South Bend St. Joseph went into the fourth quarter with a one point lead but it was all Scottsburg from there.
The Warriors made their last five shots and went on a 9-0 run in the final 2:26 of the game. South Bend St. Joseph had six 3-pointers in the first half but went 1-10 from 3 in the second half.
Miller shot 12-18 from the field with 32 points and Clancy was 6-12 with 20 points. Chase Konieczny had 15 points and 11 rebounds for the Huskies.
