LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Brownstown Central High School boys basketball won its first state championship in team history on Saturday.

The top-ranked Braves defeated Wapahani 55-36 in the Indiana High School Athletic Association Class 2A state final in Indianapolis. Jack Benter scored a team-high 25 points while Chace Coomer finished with 13 points and Micah Sheffer added 11 points and six rebounds. 

Brownstown Central opened the game scoring 12 of the first 15 points. The Braves led 18-7 at the end of the first quarter. 

Benter, a 6'6" Purdue signee, scored 16 points in the first half as Brownstown Central took a 31-14 lead into halftime. 

Wapahani closed its deficit to two possessions on a 3-pointer by Isaac Andrews with 2:24 left in the third quarter, but Brownstown Central scored on its final two possessions of the fourth quarter to take a 38-28 lead.

Brownstown Central was the state runner-up in 2004 and 2009. The team's head coach, Dave Benter, is in his 26th season.
