LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- University of Louisville football coach Jeff Brohm spent his weekend at Jim Patterson Stadium watching the Cardinals' baseball team win the NCAA Super Regional, but Brohm was working on his own home run: stealing University of Kentucky associate head coach and recruiting coordinator Vince Marrow from Mark Stoops with the Wildcats.

A source close to the U of L football program confirmed the news first reported by Pete Thamel of ESPN that Brohm is close to finalizing a three-year deal that will jolt the Governor's Cup rivalry for Marrow to leave the Wildcats for the Cardinals. The source said he expected Marrow to make the move, but it might not be official until Wednesday.
Another source said that with Marrow's connections to the Cards could land "three or four recruits a year," that could increase Louisville's chances of making the playoffs and winning a national title.
Marrow will become the general manager of U of L football, overseeing roster management, recruiting and the transfer portal. A job posting for that position was listed on the U of L open positions website for two days but was removed Monday.Ā
Considering Marrow's success as the recruiting coordinator at UK, it will be a significant blow to Stoops and UK football several months before the start of a critical season with the Wildcats trying to rebound from a 4-8 record.
Marrow has been with Stoops at UK for all 12 seasons, signing on to his original staff in December 2012 as tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator. Marrow has strong ties throughout Ohio, Michigan and Pennsylvania, contributing significantly to UK's ability to sign players like Lynn Bowden, Dane Key, Josh Paschal, C.J. Conrad, Darian Kinnard, JJ Weaver, Mike Edwards and others.
Marrow has declined multiple opportunities to leave Kentucky in the past, including one from Jim Harbaugh at Michigan in 2015. Last spring Football Scoop reported that Marrow turned down an offer to work for Bill Belichick at North Carolina.
He has a strong friendship with Jeff Brohm from their days as teammates in 2001 with the Orlando Rage in the XFL. Marrow told one friend that Brohm was "the toughest football player he's ever played with."
There were unconfirmed reports that Brohm tried to hire Marrow a year ago, and there were conversations between the men when Brohm coached at Purdue.
Last year, Marrow signed a three-year contract extension through the 2026 season with an annual salary of $1.3 million. The contract also increased his buyout from $150,000 to $200,000 if he left for another coaching job.
If Marrow serves Louisville as an administrator, not a coach, the buyout might not be enforceable.
