LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Koron Davis, whose status with the Louisville men's basketball team has been shrouded in mystery all season, was dismissed from the team on Wednesday.
The word, via the University of Louisville basketball program, came after a bizarre series of events in which the school first put out an official release saying the player would transfer, but not that he had been dismissed.
Davis had disputed that news release. When asked if he’d care to elaborate during Wednesday’s Louisville women's basketball game at the KFC Yum! Center, Davis said, "Not right now. I have to wait. A lot of people have been wanting to talk to me."
Davis, who has not played in a game nor been on the bench this season for Louisville, posted a copy of his grade report earlier Wednesday — perhaps to quell rumors about his grades being an issue — and added, "I'm enjoying the college experience being a true student-athlete. Where I come from a lot of people don't get this opportunity."
I just finished my first semester academically at Louisville. I’m extremely proud of myself. I challenged myself in the classroom and got it done. He thanked the community for its support and said he would be at Wednesday's men's and women's basketball game in the KFC Yum! Center to show his support.
Hours later, an email from the Louisville basketball program said that Davis would be transferring from the program. A statement from the program within that message read, "Davis has informed that he intends to transfer. We support him and wish him well in the future."
But there was, of course, another hitch. Davis, in response to that statement, posted on X: "I didn't express to anyone at U of Louisville that I wanted to transfer. I never asked to transfer. I enjoy being a Cardinal. The fact an official statement was released giving false information is disheartening and sad."

UofL then said later on Wednesday that prior to the statement sent earlier in the day, "Davis was informed that he had been dismissed from the men’s basketball team."
Davis played in Louisville's red-white scrimmage but hasn't been on the bench for any of the Cards' regular season games.
Louisville coach Kenny Payne said repeatedly that Davis, "is not in any trouble." Last Friday, asked about social media posts which pictured Davis in attendance at a Louisville home game, Payne said, "I have nothing to say about Koron Davis. Koron Davis is not in trouble. I didn't know he was at the game, but if he was, that's fine with me. He's part of this team right now."
