LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The NCAA announced new rules regarding the transfer portal for men's and women's basketball. Changes are effective immediately.
Under the new rules, the transfer portal window will shrink to 15 days and will open the day after the national championship game. Last season, the portal opened in the middle of the NCAA tournament.
When a head coaching change occurs, players must wait five days until after the new head coach is hired or publicly announced. The portal window will be open for 15 days.
Midyear transfers are not eligible to compete at a second school if they have already enrolled at another NCAA institution during the first semester, even if they did not participate in any games.
