LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - Louisville City FC head coach Danny Cruz unexpectedly took over as the club's head coach in 2021. Ever since, he has maintained a high standard for arguably the best club in the USL Championship.
Cruz sat down with WDRB Sports Director Tyler Greever for the newest episode of One on One, a longform interview series with the best sports figures in Louisville that focuses on not just sports, but the journeys of how those figures got to where they are at now.
Cruz is the youngest head coach to ever take a club to the USL Championship Final. He was a decorated player, spending nine years in Major League Soccer while also playing in Europe and the USL before joining LouCity as an assistant in 2018.
His personal life saw a great deal of moving. Cruz's father Alejo served in the military, being deployed for eight tours in Iraq. The family moved around a lot before settling in Arizona, where Cruz was a hockey, football and soccer star.
