LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A team of former Louisville Cardinals basketball players, known as The Ville, plays its first game Saturday at 12:30 p.m. in this summer's edition of The Basketball Tournament.
TBT, now in its 12th season, is a $1 million, winner-take-all event featuring 64 teams in a single-elimination format.
The roster includes former Cards who have competed for The Ville in previous years like Russ, Smith, Peyton Siva, Montrezl Harrell, Malik Williams, David Johnson, Chris Jones and Chane Behanan.
However, this year's team features some additions and changes.
Two years after committing to play for The Ville, Earl Clark is finally ready to suit up. He joins Louisville natives Jay Scrubb, Ray Spalding and David Sloan who have also signed on. Luke Hancock will coach the team, with Siva and former U of L assistant Mark Lieberman on staff.
"We've got to be focused on winning six games and our tournament atmosphere versus guys thinking they're going to play 35 minutes a game," Hancock said. "So, there's some challenges with adding this much talent, but I love our team right now."
On Friday, the team practiced for the final time before its first round matchup with Boston vs Cancer.
The game tips off at 12:30 at Freedom Hall, and will be broadcast on FOX. If The Ville advances to the second round, it will face the winner of Sideline Cancer and Madd Katts on Sunday, July 20 at 7 p.m. ET on FS1.
