LOIUSVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Louisville men's basketball program received some good news Tuesday. The NCAA confirmed that freshman guard Ty-Laur Johnson is immediately eligible to play this season.Ā

Johnson is a 6-foot Brooklyn, New York, native who averaged 18.4 points, 5.7 assists and 2.5 steals per game as a senior last year at Our Savior Lutheran in the Overtime Elite League. He averaged 26 points per game the previous season at St. Benedict's in New Jersey.Ā

The point guard originally committed to Memphis in November 2022, choosing the Tigers over Seton Hall and N.C. State. He didn't sign during the early period. He backed off the commitment April 24.

The Cardinals will host their annual Red and White Scrimmage at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11 at the KFC Yum! Center.

Their first exhibition is Oct. 18 against Simmons College, and UofL will open the regular season Nov. 6 at home against UMBC.
