LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A-10, B-52, C-130, F-16, KC-135 are just some of the aircraft in this year's air show for Thunder Over Louisville.

This is the military aircraft designation alphabet.

"A" stands for attack but is only with other letters, such as "AV" for attack vertical take-off.

"B" stands for bomber, from the old flying fortress B-17 to the B52.

"C" means cargo, like the C-130 hauling everything from helicopters such as the F-15 and 16.

"H" is for helicopter.

"UH" is a utility helicopter, and the Sikorsky Blackhawk is a well-known version.

"KC" is a refueling and cargo plan, the KC-135 Stratotanker has done it for more than 60 years.

"T" stands for trainer which are planes that the future Thunderbirds and Blue Angels use.

  • EFA - Electronic Warfare and Fighter and Attack

  • OH - Observation Helicopter
  • MH - Multi Mission Helicopter
  • HH - "H" for Help Helicopter / Medical Evac
  • HMLA - Helicopter Marine Light Attack
  • Helocast - Helicopter deploying troops into water
  • KC - K= refueling and cargo
  • T - Trainer
