JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WDRB) -- Thousands of people are expected to watch Thunder Over Louisville from southern Indiana this weekend.

Emergency crews in Jeffersonville are already detailing what those in attendance should know ahead of time.

One of the prime viewing spots will be Ashland Park, but getting there or anywhere else could be challenging because of road closures.

”On Friday in the in the evening after the practice air show there will be some road closures on Riverside Drive," Jeffersonville Police Maj. Joshua Lynch said. "But it'll just be partial on Riverside Drive from Southern Indiana Avenue to Clark Street. That road will be closed and there'll be no parking in that area, that's to allow for businesses and restaurants to set up for Thunder Over Louisville.”

Police are expecting large crowds on the Indiana side of the river. So in addition to all hands on deck from Jeffersonville police, Jeffersonville Fire and EMS will also be there for any potential medical emergencies.

The US Coast Guard is already keeping an eye on the Ohio River.

”We do caution all boaters," U.S. Coast Guard Lt. Morgan Manville said. "We can't control whether unless the river closes which that has not been decided yet and that will be just we'll have a brief with our captain of the port tomorrow. We like to decide that about 48 hours out today. It was too soon to make that decision. But a lot of the boat ramps are either flooded or covered with debris or thick mud so it would be impossible or extremely unsafe to watch yourself. It's just not looking like a great event for all the water.”

Police said there are some things you should leave at home.

”One is drones," Lynch said. "There is a temporary flight restriction in that area and we're going to have planes flying around in large crowds. There'll be plenty opportunities to watch through the media. If you're not down there, please do not put your drones in the air.”

If you live in the area impacted by the road closures, you will have to get a parking pass to get through. Those can be picked up at the Jeffersonville Police Department.
