LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The waterfront is bustling with activity in preparation for Thunder Over Louisville this Saturday, with vendors, displays, miles of fencing -- and most important -- hundreds of portable toilets -- being set up for the event.Â
For many families, the Thunder Over Louisville air show and fireworks display is an all-day event, with people arriving in the early morning and staying until 10 p.m. and after. Some will be fortunate enough to be in or near venues equipped with bathrooms, but others will have to rough it.Â
That means taking your chances with a Thunderpot, but the company is trying to make sure your experience with them isn't too unpleasant.Â
"Our team has been busy delivering 750 portable restrooms on both sides of the river," said Hillary Ladig, a spokesperson for Rumpke.
Rumpke has a crew of 50 employees tasked with the stinking job of setting up and tearing down the port-a-potties on both sides of the Ohio River.
The hundreds of stocked portable restrooms, and 40 sinks, will serve about 600,000 people.Â
"These portable restrooms are stocked with enough toilet paper to stretch from Louisville and Indianapolis and back, with a few miles to spare," Ladig said.
Rumpke began delivering restrooms for Thunder Over Louisville on Monday, April 15, and will continue deliveries throughout the week. Final cleanup and removal will occur immediately following the event on Saturday.
Rumpke has provided portable restrooms and waste removal services for Thunder Over Louisville since 2000.
"We've done this for so many years that our team knows the drill," Ladig mentioned. "They're ready for the project as soon as it comes up."
At last check, all of the Thunderpots were in good working condition for Saturday.
But "they might not be too good Sunday morning," a man laughed as he walked past a portable restroom on Tuesday.
The full day of broadcasting can be seen on air as well as on the WDRB.com website, the WDRB News app, the WDRB+ TV anywhere app for your phone, and the WDRB+ streaming app on your Fire, Apple or Roku TV.Â
