LA GRANGE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A yarn shop in La Grange has been helping fiber artists create for 30 years.

WDRB's Keith Kaiser joins fans of Friends & Fiber.

Friends & Fiber is a family owned and operated, women-owned craft and knitting supply store that offers knitting classes.

The retailer is owned by Oldham County native Vicki Kinser.

Customers find thousands of skeins of yarn from around the world and made from many natural fibers such as Merino wool, silk, linen, cotton, alpaca, yak, cashmere, mohair, and more.

Knitting has become more popular in recent years due to the pandemic, social media, and a new generation of designers.

It combats boredom and anxiety.

The rise of TikTok and other social media platforms has helped make knitting and crochet trendy again. Creators are transforming knitting into a high-fashion art form.

The earliest evidence of knitting dates back to ancient Egypt, around the 3rd to 5th century AD, then spread to Europe in the 14th century.

The oldest knitted artifacts are socks from Egypt, which are on display at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

Friends & Fiber is celebrating their 30th anniversary in April with a special three-day event, happening Apr. 10-12. It includes door prizes and special sale offers, along with daily refreshments.

The shop is also offering a limited edition, custom-dyed yarn created in honor of the anniversary.

The store is located in historic La Grange, Kentucky at 106 E. Main Street, just 20 minutes from downtown Louisville.
