When watching the Olympics, do you ever wonder how big a deal the weather is playing in the competitions? It's likely a theme you'll hear a lot about this year at the Paris Olympics.

What is the weather in Paris?

When looking at average weather statistics for Paris, July & August are the warmest months of the year, although may not seem too warm to us. The average high temperature in July & August in Paris is 78ºF. For perspective the average high temperature in August for Louisville is 88.4ºF, it's 84.3ºF in Indianapolis, and 84.8ºF in Cincinnati. On average the low temperatures drops into the lower 60s (in degrees Fahrenheit) in Paris in July and August, so the climate there is a little cooler compared to our climate here this time of year.

It has been hot for part of this year's Olympics however, and when you consider the humidity in the air, heat-related illnesses are a possibility for athletes working in this environment.

How has Paris's weather changed?

The last time the olympics were held in Paris was 100 years ago back in 1924. A lot can change in a century and that holds true especially for the weather in Paris.

Over the last 100 years, the average temperature for the olympics in Paris has climbed around 5.5ºF!

Back on July 30th, athletes had to deal with scorching heat as Paris reached 95 degrees for the afternoon high temperature! Since then, the Olympics in Paris have also seen 2 other days where temperatures reached the mid 80s. Those kinds of days have also increased a lot since the last Olympics there in 1924.

The forecast through the end of the Olympics is calling for around 4 more days of temperatures in the mid 80s or higher, which as we mentioned, is above normal for Paris.
