ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. (WDRB) -- Another year calls for another "sign war" in Hardin County.Ā

Businesses, organizations, churches and others in Elizabethtown are poking fun at one another through this ongoing tradition of playful banter.

The battle started in 2021 with an idea from Trisha Caudill and Brian Walker, two local radio on-air personalities for Quicksie 98.3's Morning Show.

To participate, various businesses change their signs to aim a joke at Quicksie and the radio station fires back, sometimes calling on other organizations to join in.Ā

"We are kind of poking fun, but we don't want to hurt anybody's feelings. We just want to make people smile," Caudill said during a 2021 interview.Ā

The battles previously raged on in 2021 and 2022, getting about 200 signs involved both times. There was a pause last year and Walker said he thought they'd let the war just be a fun memory, but people kept asking and finally,Ā in early September the Historic State Theater changed its sign outside to say "Hey WQXE ... one, two, three, four, we declare a sign war!"

In the past few weeks, Walker said there's been more than 80 participants.Ā

He called the sign wars, "good, clean fun."Ā

It's not clear how long this round of sign wars will last. The previous two battles continued for about one month.Ā
