LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The BISSELL Pet Foundation is holding its annual "Empty the Shelters - Holiday Hope" event next month to give pets a better chance of not spending the holiday season inside a cold shelter cage.

The reduced-fee adoption event will be from Dec. 1-17 at 380+ shelters in 43 states, including several local ones around the Louisville area.

Established in 2016, the event hasĀ helped more than 204,000 animals find homes. It is the nation's largest funded adoption event.

"Empty the Shelters" provides reduced adoption fees at participating shelters, which will range from $0 to $50 per pet adoption.

"Our nation's animal shelters need your help as they face an overcrowding crisis unlike anything we have experienced in more than a decade," Cathy Bissell, Founder of BISSELL Pet Foundation, said in a news release on Monday. "Our 'Empty the Shelters – Holiday Hope' event is the perfect opportunity to make a difference in your community by saving a life and creating space to give another homeless pet a chance this holiday season."

BISSELL Pet Foundation was founded in 2011Ā by Cathy Bissell, and its work has touched the lives of more than 720,000 pets and counting.
