LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Communities across Louisville and southern Indiana are preparing for Juneteenth with festivals, music, cultural programs and community events honoring Black history and freedom.

Juneteenth is observed June 19 and marks the day in 1865 when Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced that enslaved people were free. The order came more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.

Here’s a look at events planned across the area. Additional Juneteenth events may be announced leading up to the holiday.

If you have an event you would like to add, please email it to webteam@wdrb.com.
