LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An eastern Kentucky family said it's grateful to the Kentucky National Guard after soldiers rescued its dog from the debris left behind after a home was destroyed by a tornado.

Soldiers with the 1st Battalion, 149th Infantry Mountain Warriors, posted images on Facebook showing the dog being pulled from the rubble of a home in Laurel County that was demolished by powerful storms in the evening hours of May 16, 2025.

The soldiers sifted through the debris until they located and rescued the pooch.

The schnauzer was then reunited with its grateful family, and got some love from rescuers in the process.
