LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Community leaders are celebrating Louisville's youth summer jobs program.
SummerWorks interns spent six weeks at jobs anywhere from lifeguarding at Kentucky Kingdom to assisting scientists at the University of Louisville.
They had unique summer experiences in fields like science, technology and entrepreneurship. The program focuses on supporting young people and supporting the Louisville community.
One of the sponsors, JPMorganChase, has had a long-standing support for SummerWorks.
"Together, we can use our collective resources to help bridge the gap and ensure Louisville youth are prepared for the future because let's face it, they are the future," said Duffy Baker with JPMorganChase.
Over 2,300 people registered for SummerWorks this past summer.
"Just this month, with the exciting announcements from GE Appliances, Texas Roadhouse, and Ford, we reminded the world that Louisville is the place to do business," Mayor Craig Greenberg said. "And as these great companies and many others invest more into Louisville over the coming years, I’m proud to report that we’re also investing in the young people who will be their future workers and leaders."
