LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Athletes with Special Olympics Kentucky showed off their best bowling skills at a state tournament Sunday.
This weekend King Pin Lanes in Jeffersontown and Ten Pin Strike and Spare in St. Matthews were the homes for the annual State Bowling Tournament.
More than 600 athletes from all across Kentucky participated in both singles and doubles competition. Some Special Olympics athletes participated in the Unified program, which allows those with intellectual disabilities to partner with those who do not.Â
The bowling tournament is like a reunion with friends and family, something many look forward to every year.
"It is a great fun experience for everyone and you see these athletes grow year after year in their skills so it's very important for our athletes to have their unified partners here," Kathy Marshall, Special Olympics Sports Program Manager, said.
Special Olympics Kentucky has 14 year-round sports its athletes participate in.
