LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — An Irish tradition returned to Louisville this weekend.

Thousands of people lined the streets Saturday in the Highlands at the 53rd annual St. Patrick’s Day parade.

It began at Baxter Avenue and Broadway and continued down Bardstown Road toward Mid-City Mall.

There were several floats along with plenty of green beer.

The Hibernians give the money generated by the festival back to the community through its nonprofit, the Hibernian Cultural and Charitable Association, which puts on the annual parade.

"It's just a lot of fun, you get to hang out with friends, family, see a fun parade," attendee Justin Mattingly said. "It gives you an excuse to drink some beer, see the fun Louisville crowd and everything the city has to offer. It's a good time."
