LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A Louisville boy remembered for his strength during a battle with pediatric brain cancer will be honored this week through a community fundraiser in his name.
David Turner Jr. died at age 9 after battling Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), a rare and aggressive brain tumor affecting children. His memory will be celebrated during David Junior Ice Cream Day at Valley Dairy Freeze in Valley Station.
The fundraiser is scheduled for Thursday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Deering Road business. A portion of proceeds will benefit the Tough 2 Gether Foundation, which supports children and families affected by DIPG. Organizers said raffle baskets will also be available.
After his diagnosis, David’s family focused on creating meaningful experiences and adventures together. Though initially given a short prognosis, he lived more than three years after being diagnosed.
Organizers said the fundraiser is intended to honor David’s life while helping children currently battling DIPG.
