LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Kids at a Louisville elementary school got a little taste of Derby.

The Unbridled Charitable Foundation and the Louisville chapter of Blessings in a Backpack brought kid-friendly Derby activities to Sanders Elementary School Friday.

The students received the full celebrity treatment from walking the red carpet to getting their photo taken, and even receiving sunglasses from Shady Rays. Students also got to talk with local celebrities, see hot air balloons and visit a horse in a petting area.

"So many of them don't get to attend the Derby or the Derby Festival, so that's why this event means so much to them," said Kim Holsclaw, Managing Director of the Louisville Chapter of Blessings in a Backpack.

In addition, thanks to Blessings in a Backpack, every child at the school went home with food for the weekend.

"Unbridled Afternoon" started in 2022 and brings the Derby festival to several Louisville elementary schools each year.
