Nearly half of the 171 male juveniles housed in detention centers throughout the commonwealth are charged with violent felonies.
The work group will investigate facilities, staffing, training and more.
The move is part of an effort to overhaul the state's juvenile justice system after fights, fires, and most recently a riot in November 2022 at the detention center in Adair County.
